Use your leftover holiday ham to make this classic, creamy ham salad spread. This old fashioned recipe is quick to prepare and perfect for simple sandwiches or crackers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked ham, finely chopped or ground
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped celery
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Place the finely chopped or ground ham into a medium mixing bowl.
  2. Add the mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, yellow mustard, chopped celery, onion powder, black pepper, and salt to the bowl.
  3. Mix all ingredients together thoroughly until the mixture is well combined and creamy. Do not overmix.
  4. Taste the ham salad and adjust seasoning if needed.
  5. Cover the bowl and chill the ham salad in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to blend.
  6. Serve your creamy ham salad on bread for a classic ham salad sandwich, with crackers, or on lettuce cups.

Notes

  • For a tangier ham salad, substitute Dijon mustard for yellow mustard.
  • If you prefer a smoother texture, pulse the ham mixture in a food processor until it reaches your desired consistency, being careful not to turn it into a paste.
  • This simple ham salad recipe keeps well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days.
