Make this rich and comforting Creamy Garlic Parmesan Chicken on the stovetop. Tender chicken breasts cook quickly and then simmer in a velvety sauce made with garlic, butter, heavy cream, and Parmesan cheese. This easy skillet dinner is ready in about 30 minutes and tastes like restaurant style chicken.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus extra for garnish
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken breasts on both sides with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  2. Heat the olive oil and 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the chicken breasts to the hot skillet and cook for 5 to 7 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature reaches 165°F). Remove the chicken from the skillet and set it aside on a plate.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the same skillet. Once melted, add the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant. Do not let the garlic burn.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth and let it simmer for 2 minutes, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  6. Stir in the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
  7. Reduce the heat to low. Gradually stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until the sauce is smooth and the cheese has melted completely. Taste the sauce and add more salt or pepper if needed.
  8. Return the cooked chicken breasts to the skillet. Spoon the creamy garlic parmesan sauce over the chicken. Let it warm through for 1 to 2 minutes.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley and extra Parmesan cheese before serving. Serve this flavorful chicken dinner immediately over pasta, rice, or with steamed vegetables.

Notes

  • For a low carb option, serve this cheesy chicken dinner with steamed broccoli or cauliflower rice instead of pasta.
  • If you want to add vegetables, stir in a cup of fresh spinach or sun-dried tomatoes during the last few minutes of simmering the sauce.
  • Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese for the best melting quality in your garlic parmesan sauce.
