Make these addictive butter toffee pretzels, coated in a rich, baked brown sugar glaze. This easy recipe delivers the perfect sweet and salty crunch in under 30 minutes, ideal for parties or edible gifts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bag (12 ounces) small pretzel twists or rods
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 2 cups packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper. Spread the pretzels in a single layer on the prepared sheets.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the butter and brown sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the butter is melted and the sugar is completely dissolved. Bring the mixture to a full, rolling boil. Let it boil for exactly one minute, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Quickly stir in the vanilla extract and baking soda. The mixture will foam up.
  4. Immediately pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the pretzels on the baking sheets. Use a spatula to gently spread the toffee coating over the pretzels.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove the sheets from the oven and gently stir the pretzels to ensure even coating. Return to the oven and bake for another 5 minutes.
  6. Remove from the oven and immediately spread the pretzels into a single layer again to cool completely. Do not touch them while they cool, as this helps them set with a crunchy coating.
  7. Once completely cool and hard, break apart any clusters. Store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • For an extra layer of flavor, sprinkle a little flaky sea salt over the pretzels immediately after removing them from the oven.
  • If you want to make these a holiday treat, drizzle melted white or milk chocolate over the cooled pretzels.
  • This recipe works well for game day snacks or as a simple dessert recipe.
