Make this easy cheeseburger casserole for a comforting, family-friendly weeknight dinner. It combines ground beef, pasta, and melted cheddar cheese for classic burger flavor in one simple bake.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni pasta
  • 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup dill pickle relish (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is fully browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir the salt, pepper, onion powder, mustard, and ketchup into the cooked beef mixture. Cook for one minute, stirring constantly.
  4. Add the uncooked macaroni, shredded cheddar cheese, milk, and water to the skillet with the beef mixture. Stir everything together until well combined.
  5. Pour the entire mixture into your prepared baking dish.
  6. Bake uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the pasta is tender and the casserole is bubbly and heated through.
  7. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving. Top individual servings with dill pickle relish, if desired.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use Dijon mustard instead of yellow mustard.
  • You can substitute the elbow macaroni with rotini or small shells.
  • If you want a low-carb dinner, replace the pasta with cauliflower florets or use a keto-friendly pasta substitute.
