Make this easy, make-ahead Christmas Sangria for your next holiday party. This recipe uses red wine, seasonal fruit, and warm spices for a crowd-pleasing winter wine punch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (750 ml) bottle dry red wine, chilled
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur (like Triple Sec or Cointreau)
  • 1/4 cup orange juice, fresh squeezed
  • 1/4 cup simple syrup (or to taste)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 apple (like Honeycrisp or Fuji), cored and sliced
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup sparkling water or club soda, chilled (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a large pitcher, combine the chilled red wine, brandy, orange liqueur, orange juice, and simple syrup. Stir gently to mix the liquids.
  2. Add the cinnamon stick, sliced orange, sliced apple, and cranberries to the pitcher. Stir the fruit mixture into the wine base.
  3. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight. This chilling time allows the fruit flavors to infuse the wine. This is a great make ahead Christmas drink.
  4. When ready to serve, taste the sangria and adjust sweetness if needed.
  5. Serve the Christmas Sangria over ice in wine glasses. Top each glass with a splash of chilled sparkling water or club soda for effervescence, if desired. Garnish with extra fruit slices or a fresh rosemary sprig for a festive touch.

Notes

  • For a lighter, crispier flavor, substitute half of the red wine with a dry rosé or use a White Christmas Sangria recipe variation.
  • If you do not have simple syrup, mix equal parts sugar and hot water until dissolved, then cool completely before using.
  • This recipe is excellent for easy holiday entertaining and scales up well for large Christmas party drinks.
