Make this creamy, cheesy baked garlic bread dip served right inside a hollowed-out loaf of bread. It is a simple, shareable appetizer perfect for parties or game days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 round loaf crusty bread (sourdough or Italian works well)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced (or 1 teaspoon roasted garlic paste)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup milk or heavy cream (if needed for consistency)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare the bread bowl by slicing the top off the loaf and carefully hollowing out the inside, leaving a sturdy shell about 1 inch thick. Tear the removed bread into bite-sized pieces for dipping.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.
  3. Stir in the Parmesan cheese and half of the mozzarella cheese until just combined. If the dip seems too thick, add milk or cream one tablespoon at a time until you reach a spreadable consistency.
  4. Spoon the entire dip mixture into the hollowed-out bread bowl. Top evenly with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
  5. Place the bread bowl on a baking sheet. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the dip is hot and bubbly and the cheese on top is golden brown.
  6. Arrange the reserved torn bread pieces around the bread bowl on the baking sheet for dipping. You can also toast these pieces lightly for 5 minutes before serving if you prefer them crispier.
  7. Serve the hot bread dip immediately while it is warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, brush the inside of the hollowed-out bread shell with melted garlic butter before adding the dip mixture.
  • You can prepare the dip mixture up to 24 hours ahead of time and store it covered in the refrigerator. Add it to the bread bowl just before baking.
  • This dip pairs well with sturdy crackers, tortilla chips, or fresh vegetable sticks in addition to the bread bowl pieces.
