Make this satisfying, cheesy ground beef bake that tastes like a classic bacon cheeseburger but skips the bun. It is a simple, hearty, one-dish dinner perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lb ground beef
  • 8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 0.5 cup dill pickle relish (optional, for flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the beef. Cook until the onion softens, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and mustard powder. Cook for 1 minute.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the softened cream cheese, heavy cream, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and egg until smooth.
  6. Stir the cream cheese mixture into the ground beef mixture in the skillet. Mix well.
  7. Stir in 1.5 cups of the shredded cheddar cheese and the dill pickle relish, if using. Mix until the cheese is mostly melted and combined.
  8. Transfer the beef mixture to the prepared baking dish. Spread it evenly.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining 0.5 cup of cheddar cheese and the crumbled bacon evenly over the top of the casserole.
  10. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the casserole is hot throughout and the cheese topping is bubbly and lightly browned.
  11. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before cutting and serving.

Notes

  • For a slow cooker version, combine all ingredients except the top bacon and cheese layer. Cook on low for 3-4 hours or high for 2 hours. Top with cheese and bacon, then cover and cook until cheese melts.
  • Serve this high protein dinner casserole topped with fresh lettuce, tomato slices, and extra mustard or ketchup for a true cheeseburger experience.
  • This recipe is a great low carb dinner idea and works well for simple meal prep; leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
